Holy cow...where did this month go to? One of the reasons that there has not been an update on the blog is that I have been toO busy to do it. Many items sold in June from Mainely Quilts in Kennebunk Maine so there has been a flurry of sewing to replenish stock. I have also set myself to use mostly fabrics from my stash purchasing only coordinating fabrics in order to make a specific item. This is what brought me to make this braided table runner - all fabrics from my stash! I had made a braided runner MANY years ago and went searching for the instructions I had used in a sewing magazine to no avail. I looked at some pictures out on the web of braided quilts and said..."I can figure that out".
This week has been all about getting ready for a one day show on the Amherst Town Common this Saturday. This is only the second outdoor show I have ever done. There are lots of little details involved in setting up a booth and a store for a day. I realize as I do more shows it will become second nature to me but this week I have been living off of lists. It is the day before the show and I am VERY pleases that I have everything crossed off the lists, everything is labeled, an inventory has been taken and all that is left is to load up the car. Since it is an early start to the show (check in is a 6:30 a.m.) and we have a half hour drive, we will pack up the car this evening after dinner.
How exciting, a private commission for a bowl using the fabrics I brought home from Santa Fe! Also, a new challenge, making a fabric bowl that has a glass liner...how hard can that be? The glass bowl measured 4" at the base, is 7" across the top and is 4" high. Now, to design it. How about a blue base, then the main fabric. Next, an orange stripe, then the mail fabric again and finish it off with blue along the top...NICE! I checked several time while making the bowl if the glass bowl fit inside and it did, up to a point. Part way up the sides, it started to no longer fit snuggly and was a bit to wide. I was tiling the bowl at as steep of an angle as I could hoping ti would narrow down a but but it didn't and ended up being 8" across the top rather than 7"....darn! All the checking to make sure it was fitting was also VERY time consuming But, it is an attractive bowl and I can sell it at the show I am doing on July 12th.
