Today I felt I wanted to experiment again with using different angles, VERY different angles all in the same coiled bowl. Since this is a total experiment I did not want to use fabric that could be used for another purpose so I went digging in my stash. I have no idea when I bought this argyle fabric, probably 10-12 years ago. No doubt it was on clearance!
Today was a fun day! I had finished my Valentine sewing so it was on to St Patties Day! I have been looking forward to making a bowl out of this shamrock glittery fabric but I have been struggling with the angles on the bowl sides. My new machine which I purchased in August does everything beautifully and I am VERY happy with it except the I cannot get a steep angle when I want to make a bowl with straighter sides. It has to do with the distance between the needle and the side of the machine. With my Pfaff, it is less than 2". With my new machine it is aprox. 2 -1/2". So, today I got out my old machine and that fabulous rainbow fabric and focused on cutting the fabric in strips that would best show off the change in color and also focus on making a bowl with steeper sides.
This time of year is always a lot of fun in spite of the sub zero temperatures we have been having this week because it is Valentine sewing time. I always look forward to this because I love the colors and fabrics I get to play with. I started out last week making some cards. Lots of applique is involved with this. Once I have the design appliqued onto the fabric, I then spray the back of the fabric with adhesive and apply it to a piece of 8 -1/2" X 11" card stock. One of my favorite fabrics is this cherry blossom print.
AH YES, my first post for 2015! The photo is of a needle felted cat I commissioned fellow Shelburne Arts Co-op member, Lynn Perry to make for me. She recently started making felted animals and as soon as I saw them in the store, I knew I had to have her take a stab at a gray curled up cat as a gift for my daughter. I sent her a photo of my daughter's cat, Caspian, who is almost a pure blooded Russian Blue.
