Summer Sewing

It is rather difficult to get motivated to stay inside and sew in the Summer.  The warm breezes and lazy hazy days do not lend themselves to being inside.  I know that technically it isn't Summer yet but since it is rainy weather today and working outside is not an option, it seemed like a good time to make a few more balsam pillows.  When Laurel Burch's collection"Celestial Dreams" was released,  I bought a yard of it and it has been sitting in my stash ever since.  Thinking that it would make a nice addition to the Shelburne Arts Cooperative's Fiber Arts show in July, I designed and FINISHED 3 balsam pillows today using the fabric.  It lends itself to fussy cutting in the same way as the cat fabric I made pillows out of earlier in the week.  Once I picked the part of the fabric I was going to design around, It was then just a question of what fabric I had on hand that would play well with it.  I have always enjoyed the vibrancy of her color pallet and this fabric is alive with the colors of summer.  So, even though it is dark and dreary outside, my sewing room was alive with all these fun and bright colors.  I had two of the 6" blocks done that were going to be made into the balsam pillows and was wondering if I should throw in another color when I looked up and saw the remnant of the orange fabric I used for 2 of the carrot market bag pockets...YES!  So it happily joined in for a third 6" block and I feel like make a delightful trio. In fact, I like these colors so much I am thinking about working them into a coiled fabric bowl.  Sounds like a plan to me!
