It you get bored, make a balloon!
WOW, it has been two weeks since I have made a blog entry. There has been plenty of activity, just not much sewing. Like everyone else, life and living, getting ready for Christmas and keeping the rest of my life going has taken up a lot of time. A few days before Christmas I had sold some bibs and realized I didn't have any in inventory to replace them so time to get out all of that fun baby bib fabric and design a bunch of bibs, so I have been visiting baby bibville here for awhile.
There are some wonderful changes to report.....my DH pulled up the carpeting in the sewing room and replaced it with a click together laminate flooring which has made keeping the sewing area much easier to maintain. I LOVE IT! He also hung up some shelves in the closet so I no longer have to use the floor for storage so I am feeling that I am starting out 2014 in a good way. But, back to the bibs.
I have been making bibs for a long time and even though I still enjoy working with the fun fabrics, it is a bit boring. Time to take a look at what I can do to make it more interesting for ME! The fabric that is left after the neck is cut out I noticed looked like a balloon. I sprayed some adhesive onto the back of 3 of these neck hole scrapes, stuck them onto one side of a bib and zig-zagged around them, wha-la! Does it make economic sense to add these balloons since it does take longer to do it and the couple of dollars more I can charge for it does not in any compensate me for the extra time it takes to apply them. I accepted a long time ago that I was never going to be properly compensated for the time I put in when I am sewing. If I wanted to do assembly line type sewing (which I am not interested in) then I could probably make more per hour than I currently do but that would be so very boring. I became a fiber artist because I crave being creative and so, no I will not get properly compensated for the time I put in putting balloons on bibs but it makes sense creatively to do it. You've got to admit, they are awfully darn cute!
