Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off on vacaton I go!
For the very first time, I will be taking my sewing machine with me on vacation next week. We are off to the Poconos. My husband and I met in Pennsylvania back in the 70's. We have driven through the state many times on our way to other places but this will be our first time actually spending time there since we both graduated from Bowman Technical School which was in Lancaster, PA. My husband Tim became a certified master clock maker after graduating and I got my certificate in hand engraving. The great thing about the Poconos is that they are not far away from where my friend Margaret lives in Allentown, PA. If you recall, she was the one who got me going on the whole fabric bowl thing. My husband is a bit distressed about my taking the machine with me but how else is Margaret going to show me all the little tricks and ins and outs of making these gems. She will be stopping by next week for a visit, a few laughs, a nice dinner and of course, I am looking forward to a one on one lesson with the master. My husband and I got married in Michigan and lived there for 7 years. Margaret is originally from Michigan and we became friends back when we were living there. We did our best to try and keep in touch over the years, but as life would have it, we both did quite a bit of moving around in the 70's & 80's so we did fall out of touch. She did a Facebook search earlier this year and friended me once again and we have been in touch ever since. I saw the pictures on her FB page of her lovely fabric baskets and bowls and couldn't wait to learn how to make them. I got a bunch of 2-1/2" fabric strips (yes, they do sell fabric that way) and I cut a bunch of them to the proper size in anticipation of making some very lovely baskets and bowls with Margaret. It has been over a quarter of a century since we have seen each other. I would have said OVER 25 years but a quarter of a century sounds soooooo much longer! I probably won't be posting to my blog while I am away but plan on taking lots of pictures so check in after the 11th to see all the wonderful baskets and bowls (and great hints I acquired) while on vacation. Pennsylvania here I come!
